As I write this I wish that somebody should not assume that I am against neither celebration nor any festival, having presumed life itself a celebration?
The universal meaning and the essences of celebrations are Togetherness, Brotherhood, Giving and Sharing.
Knowing the fact of poverty, illiteracy and helplessness all around the world, the needy people around us in our neighborhood. I am certainly against the exhibitionism, the senseless celebrations (not the celebration!) and meaningless expenditures in connection to the universal festivals and functions including the one of marriage and household ceremonies. Few of us may try to justify our generosity and social concern by offering one time meal or few sweets or few dresses to some orphanage children or old age homes. That’s all.
Irrespective of socio economic and religious groups these senseless celebrations in the name of god are not in unison with the very fundamental reason these festivals made for. I am convinced that the exhibitionism linked to these celebrations are not in line with social responsibility and human concerns and even to the wish of so called gods and goddess.
I understand the commercial aspect of any festival celebration and their involvement in the flow of liquid cash and its invincible role in the trade drive and commerce.
All festivals for that matter linked with the trade of Textiles ,Gold ,Essences, Eateries ,Potteries, Groceries and what not Luminous Fire Crackers …Spending and Lending apart from Drinking!…(the sale of liquor in each state during festival day is worth around 200 crore rupees!)..Those who have more than sufficient spent from their surplus …those who don’t have borrow and spend …..But ideally the celebrations should be the forum in which the one who have must share with the one who do not have and celebrate together equally….as all are not blessed with equal opportunities and the life is not fair to all at once.
Festival season is the time to exhibit our love, kindness and generosity to all those who around …an occasion to lit light in some ones life.
But these days it turned out to be the exhibition of our material wealth and supremacy….the essence of celebrations were spoilt over this exhibitionism money over modesty. Showing off over giving off! There is no more joy in giving than showing off!!…
Kids were showing off how much more fire crackers they have over their counterparts and the adults in many more ways….
Instead of spreading light, joy, happiness and wellbeing at the end of the day these celebrations make us exhausted and tired why? Are we far from reality as we far from our God! As Mr.Narayan Murthy said it would be better to have a capitalistic mind and a socialistic heart.
